Twisted Colossus Media Day Review

la-trb-twisted-colossus-pov-six-flags-magic-mountain-20141016-vTwisted Colossus, a Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC) hybrid roller coaster opened for media the other day at Six Flags Magic Mountain. This ride designed by Allen Schilke sends riders up 121 feet in the air on this dueling racing monster. Twisted Colossus is the re-imagined coaster based on the original Colossus roller coaster only  instead of using wood track this coaster used a Iron Horse I Beam style track to twist riders in never before seen directions. This includes a first ever Top Gun Stall,  an inversion where one train is upside down in a zero g roll while the other train is below cresting an airtime hill, and the Western Hemisphere’s first ever High Five element, where two trains pass through an overbanked turn facing each other with the illusion that you can reach out and “high five” other riders. Their are also many airtime filled moments, sending you out of you seat 18 times. Parts of the original structure remain for the new ride as well.

Twisted Colossus, the next generation of the beloved wooden roller coaster that thrilled millions of guests in its 36-year reign at the park, will be a unique technological marvel combining an iconic wooden structure with state-of-the-art Iron Horse Track. The advanced technology, available exclusively at Six Flags, provides ride experiences never before possible on wooden coasters, such as over-banked turns and inversions. Twisted Colossus will feature numerous exciting components including a “Top Gun” element, the western hemisphere’s first “High Five” element, and a Zero G Roll.

Six Flags Over Georgia Construction Update

SFOG_Joker_LOGO_4CThis weekend In The Loop was able to stop by Six Flags Over Georgia to check out their construction projects going on in Gotham City. Six Flags is adding two new attractions to their Gotham line up in 2015. First The Joker Chaos Coaster, a 7 Story Larson looper built by Larson International. Riders will flip upside down, experiencing insanity, traveling both forwards and backwards during the ride.  Harley Quinn Spinsanity is the second addition to the Gotham City area. Harley Quinn is a tilt – a – whirl designed for the whole family to spin together. Seven cars rotate around the circular track, spinning in all kinds of directions.

As you can see from the video not much construction is going on. The track for The Joker Larson Looper are on site and could be going vertical any day now. While not a whole lot of construction has started with Harley Quinn. The Harley Quinn ride does not even appear to have its concrete pad footer poured yet. Both rides are expected to open in may. Currently Mind Bender and Crime Wave are operating as normal, and Batman : The Ride is operating backwards as namtaB.

THUNDERBIRD’S FIRST TEST LAUNCH
DEEMED HUGE SUCCESS

SANTA CLAUS, IND.—–Twenty water-filled test dummies got the ride of their lives today as they experienced the first flight of the nation’s only launched wing roller coaster.

As this week’s snow thawed, Thunderbird roared to life this afternoon and launched its first train 14 stories into the cloudless sky at 2:03pm, completing a full ride circuit on its first try.

“We’ve been joking that on this day when we usually ‘spring forward’ to Daylight Savings Time, we decided to launch forward,” says Holiday World’s president, Matt Eckert. “This is a huge milestone for us – Thunderbird is the greatest investment we’ve made since we opened in 1946. Our season begins in just seven weeks.”

Thunderbird, Holiday World’s first major steel roller coaster, features a zero-to-60 miles-
per-hour launch in 3.5 seconds, followed by multiple inversions – including a 14-story Immelmann loop, Zero-g roll, barrel roll, and a loop soaring 125 feet in the air.

Continuing Holiday World’s tradition of sending roller coasters through its thickly wooded and hilly terrain, Thunderbird at first soars and loops high in the air and then hugs the ground, with rapid-fire “near misses” such as a fly-through barn, stone chimneys, other rides, trees, and even the ground.
Holiday World opens for the season on April 25, with the premiere of Thunderbird. Splashin’ Safari opens May 13. For more information about the parks and seasonal job opportunities, visit HolidayWorld.com or call 1-877-463-2645.
